5 sessions from Fri 9 Jan 2026 [Show]
Ages 13-17yrs
Stage 8 to club level
Join us for fun and friendly weekly training sessions, to help you get fit, improve your stroke technique, master diving and tumble turns (Ferndown only for dives and tumble turns), develop strength and stamina, and enjoy playing water polo and water volleyball.
The hour training sessions will include stroke technique work, drills, speed and endurance work. There are 3 or 4 different lane abilities. Varied programmes are set each week to help build fitness, strength, and improve stroke technique. There are two swimming instructors leading the session, who are on-hand to give tips and advice to help develop strokes, starts, turns and other swimming skills.
A typical swimming programme includes a warm up, a main set (that might focus on a particular stroke or part of the stroke, such as leg kick, pull or breathing) and a contrast activity, such as fun relay races, sculling practise, lifesaving skills, or water polo drill practises. Throughout the term, swimmers will practise all the four main strokes (frontcrawl, backstroke, breaststroke and Butterfly).
The swim fit session is aimed at teens wanting to get fit and enjoy their swimming, whilst socialising, meeting new friends, and meeting their own personal goals. We have lots of teenagers that choose to do their physical section part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award at our Swim Fit Sessions. The swim coach leading the session is able to be the assessor for this part of their D of E.
