Welcome back to our extremely popular cold water swimming sessions, at the beautiful Yarrells pool, in Upton. This year's 2026/27 Winter cold water season, will run from November - March.
Cold water swimming is great for boosting your mood and immune system, improving your fitness levels, metabolism and circulation, and it can reduce stress levels. It's also a great chance to meet friendly fellow swimmers!
Swim England Open Water Coach and Certified Cold Water Therapy Coach (and World Age Group Ice Swimming Silver Medallist and double Ice Mile Swimmer), Elizabeth Mills, will be on hand for in water advice, and our Qualified National Pool Lifeguard (STA Open Water Coach and Certified Cold Water Therapy Coach), will be on poolside for your safety.
The 17.2m pool will be unheated. Built under a dome, the roof can be opened in sections to allow the Winter elements in. You never know, we might be lucky enough to swim under the snow! There will be soft lighting, fairly lights and under water diving lights to add to the atmosphere (no formal lighting). Bring your adventure lights to swim with, or choose to swim under the light of the moon and stars!
The November pool temperature will start around 19 - 21 degrees, and will drop down to around 15 degrees by the end of November, and then drop further to around 13 degrees by mid December. January's temperatures will be colder still - around 9 - 11 degrees, February will see temperatures around 11 or 12 degrees, and then by mid March the temperatures will rise to around 14 to 15 degrees. (Temperatures based on the 2025/26 season).
Book now to avoid missing out on our popular cold water swimming sessions. You can start anywhere in the Winter season, but ideally, start your sessions in November to help you acclimatise safely and comfortably. Cold water is officially at 15 degrees Celcius or below, but physical and mental health benefits start whenever you show up and embrace the cold (whatever the temperature), in our friendly cold water community!
The hour session allows you to swim for as little or as long, as you want to. Customers are encouraged to arrive at any time between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. so swimmers have lots of space in the pool. Some experienced cold water swimmers may want to swim for the whole hour, whilst others may want to swim for 10 or 20 minutes (for example) or dip for a few minutes (often when it gets colder). We ask that everyone swims their own swim and listens to their body. Just a few minutes in cold water gives you great benefits!
There will be a lane for swimmers training for cold water events/ice miles, and the rest of the pool will be used for recreational/gentle cold water swimming or dipping.
All abilities are welcome, from first time cold water dippers/swimmers to experienced ice swimmers. Free hot chocolate and biscuits are included, and the changing rooms have heaters.
