Adult Mermaid Class
Our Mermaid classes for Adults are a fun and exciting way to get fit, meet new people and enjoy the freedom and beauty of swimming with a Mermaid tail! Classes run on Tuesday evenings, at the gorgeous Yarrells School outdoor heated pool, in Upton (Sept and Oct) and the indoor heated pool at St. Michael's Middle School, in Colehill (Nov and Dec).
The class is for all abilities: beginners, improvers and experienced mermaids. Some of our mermaids have been mermaiding with me for over 5 years, whilst others are completely brand new to this new exciting hobby. You will be hooked!
The cost of the class includes use of the tails and fins during each class, tuition from a qualified Fit2Fit Mermaid Instructor (me!) and lots of fun and giggles during the classes! Booking is in a block with payment per term. We have a special offer this Autumn Term, when you book all 12 sessions, making it really affordable and great value!
A typical class starts with a 10 minute aqua aerobic warm up to music, using different fitness aids each week, such as dumb bells, noodles, finger paddles and swimming gloves. Mermaids then put their fins and tails on and we swim lengths using with a variety of mermaid strokes, on the surface and under water. This is great fitness and the mermaids especially love the challenge of underwater swimming.
It's then time for some mermaid skill practise, such as underwater cross overs, tail flips, handstands and mermaid somersaults! We swim through floating and sinking hoops and in-between 'seaweed'! Our mermaids work in groups, pairs and individually, and it's great fun. We often create sequences of skills (a bit like synchronise swimming). The mermaid instructor (myself) teachers from the pool edge, giving technique guidance, encouragement and instruction. Activities are differentiated according to ability and experience and each session builds on new skills learn previously.
There are often themed evenings during the mermaid class, such as at Halloween, Fireworks night, Christmas and Easter. In the Summer months, we go to Shore Road to mermaid swim and apply all our skills learnt during the Winter/Spring season, in the open water.
We enjoy visiting exciting open water locations in our Mermaid pod, including Durdle Door and Swanage Old Pier, and we often get involved in charity events in our tails, such as the Annual Swimathon for Cancer Research and Marie Curie, and the RNLI 24 hour fundraiser swim. We also enjoy doing the occasional mermaid display/show. These have included a display at Victoria School and shows at an ice swimming event (SLICE) in Shaftesbury in 5.4 degrees and again this year in 7.6 degrees Celcius!
If you'd like to try a session to see if Mermaiding is for you, a taster session is £15. (Only one taster session allowed per person). Please note, it is a female class, but if you are male and would like to give mermaiding a try, we have private party slots available to book, for up to 12 participants.
All Mermaid Experiences/Classes are taught by fully qualified Fit2Fit Mermaid Instructor, Elizabeth Mills.
