(Please note: Children aged 5 - 7 years, and weak/non swimmers, must have an adult in the water with them on a 1 to 1 basis. Adult is free, with no tail).

Children's Mermaid Experiences: 5 - 14 years

Our children’s mermaid experiences are an amazing way for your child to experience swimming like a mermaid, in a safe and friendly environment, with a fully qualified and experienced mermaid instructor. Mermaid Experiences run on a monthly basis in the lovely heated indoor pool at St. Michael's Middle School, Colehill. Enjoy a fun packed 45 minute session of Mermaiding fun!

Our Mermaid Experiences are suitable for all swimming abilities, from non/weak/beginner swimmers to confident swimmers, and for first time Mermaids to children who have been mermaiding with me many times before.

For children aged 5 - 7 years, and children who are weak or non swimmers of any age between 5 - 14 yrs, an adult must accompany the child in the water on a 1 to 1 basis. The adult will not be wearing a tail and they must be a good swimmer. Disc armbands and woggles are available if your child needs buoyancy aids, or the child may use their own.

For children aged 8 - 14 years, and who are confident swimmers (can swim at least 25m unaided and can float without assistance) an adult is not required in the water with them.

The cost of the Mermaid experience includes hire of tail and fin, mermaid tuition from a qualified Fit2Fit Mermaid Instructor (myself - Eliza Star-Kelp!), mermaid games, a certificate, and photos and videos sent to your WhatsApp/email. Our Halloween and Christmas Special Mermaid Experiences include Halloween/Christmas themed games and a treat from our sweet/chocolate selection!

A typical Mermaid Experience starts with selecting a fin and tail (we have a huge selection), an on-land photo, followed by safety instructions. There is a short swimming assessment (without a tail on) for children who are swimming independently (confident swimmers, aged 8 and over) before they use their tail and fin. Children will practise how to swim using a dolphin (mermaid) kick. They will then learn different ways of swimming with a tail: on the surface and under the water, using different strokes, turns and log rolls. Some children may learn to do mermaid somersaults, handstands and tail flips!

It's then time for some exciting mermaid games. These include treasure hunts (retrieving sinkers from the pool floor), relay races, swimming through floating and sinking hoops and in-between 'seaweed'! Our mermaids play games in groups, pairs and individually, and it's great fun. Sometimes, they will create sequences of skills (a bit like synchronise swimming). The mermaid instructor (myself) teachers from the pool edge, giving technique guidance, encouragement and instruction. Activities are differentiated according to ability and experience. Many children return for many more Mermaid Experiences and the each experience builds on new skills learnt previously.

At the end of the Experience, there is a ‘free play’ session and photo shoot, with large floats, small inflatables, balls and music. Each child is presented with a certificate, which is numbered, and children enjoy collecting the certificates each time they do a Mermaid Experience!
